Earth Overshoot Day marks the day when we consume all of the natural resources that the earth can replenish in a year. In 2024, this date was set for August 1st. This date indicates that humanity is living in "ecological debt", consuming our planet's future resources for the remaining five months of the year.
Globally, this year's Earth Overshoot Day shows that sustainability limits are being rapidly exceeded. The construction industry is an important part of this problem. From the materials used in building construction to energy consumption, the construction industry is an intensive user of natural resources. In this context, sustainable construction and architecture practices play a critical role in reducing the ecological footprint.
With a rapidly growing economy and increasing urbanization, Turkey is rapidly depleting its ecological resources. As of August 1, 2024, Turkey has also exceeded its ecological limits. This shows that the construction sector also has a significant impact.

Diem Mühendislik Mimarlık olarak, ESG prensiplerimiz kapsamında, sürdürülebilirlik ve çevresel etkileri azaltmak için çeşitli adımlar atıyoruz:
Steps to be taken in the construction sector to push back global and Turkiye-specific ecological limits:

August 1, 2024, the Earth Overshoot Day, shows that ecological crises are deepening at both global and local levels. The construction industry has a major role to play in sustainability. We must adopt more sustainable construction and architecture practices to protect our natural resources and push back ecological limits. As Diem, the steps we take towards this goal make an important contribution to a greener and more sustainable world in the future.
