This year, we celebrated 23 April National Sovereignty and Children's Day with a fun and instructive event for children. As Diem, the ‘Water Saving Awareness Workshop’, which we carried out in order to instil the love of nature and water in children who are the architects of the future, was met with great interest and love by our little participants.
The question ‘Why is water important?’ was at the centre of our activity. We both talked and experimented with the children:
We talked about how they can use water economically in daily life. We explained simple but effective behaviours such as turning off the tap while brushing teeth, not wasting water while soaping hands, noticing dripping taps with examples.At the end of the event, we presented ‘Protect Your Water, Protect the World’ themed stickers and ‘Water Hero’ badges to all children. Our little heroes loved their gifts!
During the activity, we also told the children about Atatürk's sensitivity to nature. Especially with the story ‘Walking Mansion’, they learnt that he had the mansion transported by rails in order not to cut down a tree. Thus, we established a beautiful connection between environmental awareness and leadership.
One of the most enjoyable and inspiring moments of the day was the part where we asked the following question to the children:
‘If you were environment minister, what would you do to protect water and nature?’
The answers we received were really creative, fun and full of hope. Their sincere ideas showed us that environmentally friendly individuals of the future are growing up.
On this day when we combined 23 April enthusiasm with the love of nature and awareness of water saving, the energy and interest of children inspired us.
As Diem, we are very happy to contribute to the upbringing of environmentally conscious and conscious generations.
